BUTOH SUMMER CAMPS IN DENMARK
CAMP 1: 1-8 August & camp 2: 10- 17 August
Camp 1: Arrival 1 August before 18.00.Departure 9 August before 12.00.
Camp 2: Arrival 10 August before 18.00. Departure 18 August before 12.00
We prefer new students to come at camp1 and former students at camp 2. It’s
possible to book both camps.
Description:
Camp at Bornholm, one of the most beautiful and magic islands
of Denmark, with a fascination various nature. From long white beaches
to high dramatic cliffs. Students can stay in a open creative atmosphere
at the great farm of the Academy of Creativity,, with equipment for staging,
costumes etc in the huge beautiful open studio, surrounded by fantastic
nature. Bornholm is situated in the middle of the Baltic sea, central for
the Nordic and Baltic Countries, Poland, Germany and Denmark, with 3 hours
easy transport from Copenhagen airport. We can arrange all transport for
you.
Butoh Experimental Dance, Exploring
Body, Mind, Spirit. And its relation to Existence, Nature and Culture
A different course than the common,
gathering training, everyday and performance in one - the purpose is
to give the individual participant the possibility of a deep study
of body expression, removed from the usual pressure from outside and
in close contact with nature.
The body is your instrument, your tool, which like time
and condition can be controlled and understood, in order not to let ignorance
be the limit.
The training develops
strength and knowledge as well as body and mind, to extend the physical
and mental relation, and expression to a more wide and effective language. Through a
complex training program, composed of concrete exercises, each part of
the body is valued equally, e.g. the power of the eye is trained as well
as that of the leg.
Strength - flexibility - balance - rhythm - coordination - precision
- concentration - composition - improvisation - energy - breath - centering
- awareness - sensitivity - imagination - perception - alignment Followed
by massage and effective stretching, from Body Weather, Japan. Furthermore
there will be workshops every day with unusual movement techniques from
Butoh dance.
Part of the course: will take place outdoors in the
beautiful nature of the Island. Members of the seminar will get great
possibilities to make small performances together and individually, related
to the work of the Butoh thoughts and methods.

The course:
Is open for everyone interested in working with body, mind, and spirit.
You had to be preparing to work concentrated physically and mentally,
however you don’t need any specific experience, as it is based
on the group.
The language of the seminar is English, comprehensible as well as for Spanish,
Italian and France Language speakers.
Anita Saij
International
renowned performer and teacher through 25 years within experimental dance,
theatre, somatic practice and movement therapy. Direct students of the
co founder and great elder master Kazuo Ohno through more than 3 years and
former participant of the Body Weather Group / Min Tanaka in Japan.
Anita Saij was the first European teacher; dancer and
choreographer practicing thoughts and technique of the original Japanese
Butoh. Developing a unique way of unified body training, experimental
staging and deep mindful dance, as well as connecting traditional and
postmodern aspects in a very physically, mentally and spiritual dance
body work.
Her teaching, lectures and performances have been
around many cultures from collaborations with the original people of
North Sami and Inuit from Europe to Japan and Korea. As choreographer
is recognized by a great numbers of artists and institutions such as
The Royal Danish Ballet and New French Circus, and as an intense performer
herself.
She founded the international priced performance group Theatre
Dance Lab.1986, Nordic School of Butoh & New Open Training Somatic
Institute 2002, and now the Art Culture Center at Bornholm housing
the education Art Human Nature
Practical information:
You can only signing up by paying the enrolment deposit together with
returning the application form by mail.
Deadline for enrolment: Special price one month before start of course,
or at the latest 2 weeks before start of course.
Price:
Price
include the enrolment deposit DKK 800, - / Euro 100, - and simple lodging
in dormitory, tent high loft .
DKK 3.240,-/euro 432,-, 7 days camp (special price) If the booking is
at the latest 1 June.
DKK 3.600,-/euro 480, - 7 days camp, at the absolute latest 1 July.
DKK 6.075-/euro 810, - 14 days camp plus 2 of days between the camps.
(Booking of 2 camps has double deposits).
Lodging & Food:
Simple
lodging is included in the price of the camps, in dormitory, high loft,
tents depending of how many participators; we have mattress and locker,
you had to bring own sleeping bag, warm blanket, sleeping / training
mats and warm outside close) . You can also have lodging in a double
room (it might be a single if few are booking rooms) with closet, table,
bed, bed duvet, warm blanket, towel, bath tub in the main house, and
warm close for out door work etc. (extra charge DKK 120 / 16 Euro a
night, please note it in advance at the application). FoodDKK
90,-/ euro 12, - per day. It is a part of the camp to cook, and eat together
every day. Request of special food as allergy or vegetarian had to be writing
at your application form.
Transport:
Bornholm is a very popular island for artists and tourists especially
in weekends and holidays. The ferries can be full. We can arrange
all transport the whole way from Copenhagen airport or main station to
the farm if you prefer. Then we buy and e-mail the tickets to you in
advance and send a travel plan ( price is around 34 Euro one way, we
don’t
charge extra for this service and we can refund and cancel the ticket
up to one day before). It is easy and cheap and takes only 3 hrs. Directly
by bus and ferry. To order you travel you had to pay
the 34 Euro to the account of the school. Please be in
good time. You
are also welcome to organize it yourself or hitchhike. The ferries are

You can fly directly from Jylland or Copenhagen or from destinations

Payment:
All payment and transfer has to be directly to the
Bank Account of Nordic School of Butoh: Nordea Bank, Kongens
Nytorv, Copenhagen K, swift code NDEADKKK, and iban number DK
112 000 8896 497 007). Notice to write your name and dates of the course
at the transfer. All transfer expenses are paid by you. It can
take 7days before we receive your transfer. Bring the receipt with you
the first day at the course.
Cancellation:
If the School cancels a course, all payments will be returned by banc
to your banc account. If the students cancel the course, enrolment deposit
and the payment of the course can be full returned until the registration
deadline (minus an administration fee of 20 %), then the enrolment deposit
will be kept and after start of the course all payment.
Insurance:
Students have to have an ordinary personal insurance. Participation in the course
and stay at the place are at own risk and has to be signed. If you fly it is
a god idea to buy cheap cancellation insurance to your flight ticket, just in
case of cancellation of the course etc.
Economical:
The Academy is a non-profit private and independent Art Culture Centre,
which means we don’t receive any financial support. We can help
you with an invitation; Course and education gives you good possibilities
to ask for grants in your home country if you are artist. Invitation
for visa and immigrate paper is only possibly, after you had paid the
course.
Work Exchange:
You have to apply the school, with motivation profession, what you can
work with etc. We can give you a maximum of 50 % reducing of the price.
The work will be arranged according to your personal skill and according
the need of the farm; for instance painting or renovating the buildings,
work in the forest or garden etc. We don’t need people for the daily clearing or cooking as we doe this
works our self. Remark some of the work will be organized before the course starts,
so it doesn’t affect the course or disturb the teaching schedule,
as we have a full day teaching schedule.
